Unfortunately, the high quality of the Hyouka anime may have spoiled you for enjoying the light novels. The anime adds a lot of visual nuance to the conversations and relationships that may make getting into the dense reading that is the Hyouka novel a bit more difficult.
However, the manga does offer a happy compromise with pretty good visuals and an easier to digest telling of the story.
