Yozakura Quartet can be a confusing series in its storytelling, and that is only made worse with the shabby condition that the anime has treated the story.
Unfortunately, while the original manga can leave you less confused by the story, you still have to figure out the story from the rather vague and detailed storytelling, which is still too high of a bar for some.

Where To Start The Yozakura Quartet Manga After The Anime?
A confusing tidbit of Yozakura Quartet is that it got a pretty bad original anime adaptation in 2008, but was rebooted with a new TV anime and OVA that are more faithful to the manga in 2013. Some thought the 2013 anime a sequel, but it is not.
If you finished either Yozakura Quartet anime (or both), where to pick up the manga after the anime can differ significantly.
- If you finished Yozakura Quartet (2008) – Start at Chapter 23 (but it would be strongly recommended to read from the beginning)
- If you finished Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta (2013) – Start at Chapter 51
- If you finished Yozakura Quartet – Hana no Uta (2013) + Tsuki ni Naku OVAs – Start at Chapter 61
If you also watched the Hoshi no Umi OVAs, those take place in between Episode 8 and Episode 9 of the Hana no Uta TV anime. The Hoshi no Umi OVAs adapt Chapter 23 through Chapter 34, but often only adapts many of the chapters partially.
What to Expect From The Yozakura Quartet Manga?
To be blunt, Yozakura Quartet is a manga you should read from the beginning no matter what version of the anime you watched.
The 2008 anime is about half anime-original. The 2013 anime and OVAs are better, but still skip a large chunk of chapters that will continue to make an already-confusing story more confusing moving forward.
Is The Yozakura Quartet Manga Over?
The Yozakura Quartet is still ongoing. Since launching in 2006, it releases one or two volumes per year.
Will There Be A Yozakura Quartet Season 2?
Yozakura Quartet got two shots at an anime adaptation, and neither of them were great. I don’t foresee more unless the manga is ending and someone wants to give such a lengthy series a more diligent shot.
