While CLAMP’s popularity has faded over the years, they used to be a powerhouse of interconnected stories on par with the Nasuverse. A key linchpin in that was xxxHolic whose meme-ably lanky characters were able to cover a wide variety of unique supernatural stories with its simple premise.
Where To Start The xxxHolic Manga After The Anime?
If you finished both seasons of the xxxHolic anime and wish to continue the story with the manga, you can do so at Chapter 129.
While the Shunmaki and Rou OVAs do adapt more of the story, it is best if you start from Chapter 129 as the OVAs adapt content fast and skips much.
What to Expect From The xxxHolic Manga?
The xxxHolic series crosses over heavily with another CLAMP series, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, which crosses over with Cardcaptor Sakura. If you are a Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles fan, or otherwise wish to understand the crossover better, then I suggest you read the xxxHolic manga from the beginning. The anime still touches on the crossover moments, but does leave a lot out.
That said, you can fully enjoy xxxHolic alone and not worry about the crossover with Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles.
The Shunmuki and Rou OVAs for xxxHolic are canon and are more focused on the Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle crossover events. If you intend to read the manga, you don’t need to watch them.
Is The xxxHolic Manga Over?
The xxxHolic manga is complete. It ended in 2011 with Chapter 213.
xxxHolic also had a sequel manga called xxxHolic Rei. The series is on “indefinite hiatus,” which at this point, is an impolite way of saying canceled.
Will There Be A xxxHolic Season 3?
The OVAs did wrap up the xxxHolic series – not counting Rei. As the sequel manga is on indefinite hiatus, it seems unlikely that xxxHolic will ever continue.
