I enjoy me a good fantasy romance where the politics and building of the world is just as big of a part of the story as the actual romance, and Unnamed Memory could have been that. It is that, as it turns out, in the light novels, but someone really fumbled the ball with this anime adaptation.

Is The Unnamed Memory Light Novel Over?

The Unnamed Memory light novel is complete. It ended in 2021 with Novel 6.

The main story is concluded, but the Unnamed Memory: After the End light novel series continues Oscar and Tinasha’s story. The light novel is ongoing. Since launching in 2022, it usually releases one novel per year.

You can also enjoy Babel, a spin-off light novel that takes place 300 years after the story of Unnamed Memory about a girl isekai’d into the world from ours.

Where To Start The Unnamed Memory Manga After The Anime?

While Unnamed Memory has a manga, if it behind the light novels. It is, as of Chapter 37, at Episode 7 of the anime and about half way through Novel 2 of the light novel.

The manga is still a good choice for enjoying some parts that the anime skipped, though.

What to Expect From The Unnamed Memory Source Material Compared to The Anime?

All in all, Unnamed Memory was a pretty bad adaptation. I suppose they could have tried to wedge all six of the light novels in, which would have been worse, but not by much.

Aside from Engi just being pretty terrible at animating action scenes, the anime sliced out a lot of the romance in this fantasy romance story. They cut out or cut short all the bits that were meant to develop the characters and develop their building romance in a way that invests you so you can push through the tougher parts of the light novel.

The anime turned a pretty good fantasy romance into something bland and almost laughably bad at moments. You should read the Unnamed Memory light novels from the beginning.

Will There Be A Unnamed Memory Season 2?

Following the final episode of Season 1, a Unnamed Memory Season 2 was announced. It is stated to air in January 2025.
