The Sister Princess novels have a very specific format in which each novel really focuses in on one individual sister. The anime takes bits and pieces from those stories for episodes, but widely is an anime-original project that makes up its own stories as well as, at times, characters.
The Sister Princess original anime isn’t adapting very much from the novels. Sister Princess RePure—a remake anime, not a sequel—does fall closer to adapting moments from the light novel, and even focuses more on specific sisters, but is still not a good adaptation. Furthermore, due to how the light novel is formatted, where each sister gets a novel, you still couldn’t just jump into the story anywhere.
