Where Does The Shugo Chara Anime End In The Manga?

While it is not quite the case now, I still remember a time when people thought of magical girl anime, they thought of Shugo Chara.

Or at least they think they thought of Shugo Chara because old school magical girl anime can sometimes all blur together in a bit of a blurry moe mass of twee sparkle.

Where To Start The Shugo Chara Manga After The Anime?

If you finished the Shugo Chara anime and want to continue the story in the manga, you can start at:

  • If you finished the Shugo Chara Season 1 anime – You can start the manga at Volume 7, Chapter 27.
  • If you finished the Shugo Chara Doki Season 2 anime – You can start the manga at Chapter Volume 10, Chapter 43.
  • If you finished the Shugo Chara Party Season 3 anime – This season had a few small elements of the manga, but was majorly an anime-original story, right down to the ending.

What to Expect From The Shugo Chara Manga?

To put it plainly, the Shugo Chara anime is great for what it is, but what it is is not a good adaptation of the manga story. The Shugo Chara anime is stuffed full of anime-original filler, even outside of the mostly anime-original third season. This wildly slows down the pace and makes the story more of a slice of life affair that is occasionally about magical girl action.

If you were to read the Shugo Chara manga from the beginning, you wouldn’t necessarily get a ton of new content, but you would definitely notice a lot of differences from the anime including a much different ending than the anime offered you. Furthermore, the Shugo Chara manga, while still plenty light-hearted like the anime, is a more tautly paced, action-focused story that also features more serious character development for the main characters than the anime.

As the Shugo Chara anime did adapt a good chunk of the Shugo Chara manga story—even if it stuffed a whole bunch of anime-original content in between it—you actually will be able to jump into the story of the manga fairly easily because there is not that much of the manga story left to even finish. Essentially, if you didn’t read the Shugo Chara manga from the beginning to see the full story without all the changes and filler, you would be jumping in for pretty much the ending of the story.

If you just want to see how the series ends in the manga, you can jump into reading it pretty easily, but you definitely would benefit from reading the Shugo Chara manga from the beginning.

Is The Shugo Chara Manga Over?

The Shugo Chara manga is complete. It ended in 2010 with Volume 12, Chapter 52.

You may find reference to the Shugo Chara Encore manga, a single volume sequel, but that has long since been folded into the main series, thus is the 12th and final volume of the main Shugo Chara manga.

You can enjoy the proper Shugo Chara sequel manga, Shugo Chara Jewel Joker, as well. This manga started in 2024 and has released one volume.

Will There Be A Shugo Chara Season 4?

While it seemed Shugo Chara came to a close as an anime in 2010, with the recent release of Jewel Joker, it means that interest for the series is maybe still alive. They definitely need a lot of time for Jewel Joker to cook, but it could get an adaptation or the series could just get a full-on remake.
