Where To Start The Saint Seiya Manga After The Anime?
Saint Seiya (1986)
If you finished watching the original Saint Seiya 1986 anime and want to continue the story in the manga, you can start at:
- If you finished watching Saint Seiya Galactic Wars Arc (Episodes 1 – 8) You can start the manga at Volume 3, Chapter 12.
- If you finished watching Saint Seiya Black Saints Arc (Episodes 9 – 15) – You can start the manga at Volume 5, Chapter 20.
- If you finished watching Saint Seiya Pope Ares’ Minions Arc (Episodes 16 – 22) – This arc is anime original!
- If you finished watching Saint Seiya Silver Saints Arc (Episodes 23 – 39) – You can start the manga at Volume 11, Chapter 39.
- If you finished Saint Seiya Sanctuary Arc (Episodes 40 – 73) – You can start the manga at Volume 13, Chapter 46.
- If you finished Saint Seiya Asgard Arc (Episodes 74 – 99) – This was an anime original arc!
- If you finished Saint Seiya Poseidon Arc (Episodes 100 – 114) – You can start the manga at Volume 19, Chapter 68
- If you finished Saint Seiya Hades Arc (The Hades: Chapter Elysion OVA, Episodes 115 – 145) – The anime fully adapted the manga through Volume 28, Chapter 110.
Please note, that alongside the anime-original arcs, there are a number of changes and omissions from the manga throughout the original Saint Seiya anime. These changes are nothing that greatly alters the plot in any significant way, but worth noting, none-the-less.
As an additional note, the Saint Seiya movies are all anime-original side stories. The 6th movie, Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary, an all CGI remake, is technically retelling some of the Sanctuary arc, but it is heavily different from the manga and original anime story.
While Movie 5, Heaven Chapter Overture, was once considered a sequel to the Hades Arc, it has since been de-canonized by the Saint Seiya – Next Dimension manga, which is the canon sequel manga series to the main story.
Saint Seiya ONA (2019)
If you finished the Saint Seiya 2019 Netflix ONA with the ugly CGI animation, both seasons, you should read the manga from the beginning. While it is a “remake,” technically, it pretty much just freestyled its way through the Sanctuary Arc (through Chapter 45.)
As the events were greatly changed, and many of the characters have wildly English-ified names, jumping into the manga would be jarring, if not extremely difficult.
Saint Seiya: Soul of Gold (2015)
This is a fully anime-original spin-off series. However, as it does still work with canon events, you will want to watch this only after finishing the Hades Arc.
Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas OVAs (2009)
The Lost Canvas manga and corresponding OVA anime is a prequel to the original Saint Seiya manga/anime. The manga adapts the previous Holy War with a new set of characters, but remains a very similar sort of story to the original Saint Seiya.
If you finished the Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas anime, and want to continue the story in the manga, you can start at:
- If you finished Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas Season 1 – You can start the Lost Canvas manga at Volume 7, Chapter 55.
- If you finished Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas Season 2 – You can start the Lost Canvas manga at Volume 11, Chapter 96.
Saint Seiya Omega (2014)
Saint Seiya Omega is a spin-off sequel to the original Saint Seiya story. While happening after the events of the original Saint Seiya, Saint Seiya Omega follows a new set of characters and is widely detached from the characters from the original story, making it not a story continuation, but still a sequel none-the-less.
However, while Saint Seiya Omega has a manga, it is a single volume. As the anime spans 97 episodes, they went far beyond what the manga introduced.
Saint Seiya: Saintia Sho ONA (2018)
Saintia Sho is a spin-off series that happens concurrently with the original Saint Seiya story. It follows Saintias, which is an all-female group of warriors that serve as Athena’s bodyguards.
If you finished the Saint Seiya Saintia Sho ONA and want to continue the story in the manga, you can start at Volume 8, Chapter 33.
Do note that the ONA drifts into an anime-original ending in the final episode.
