Despite what has been revealed about the author, Rurouni Kenshin was once a legendary series that held a fond place in a lot of people’s hearts. In this age of remaking replacing creative original thought, at least Rurouni Kenshin was a good candidate for it due to the occasional slap-dash nature of the original anime adaptation.

Where To Start The Rurouni Kenshin Manga After The Anime? (Original and 2023)
If you are a fan of the original Rurouni Kenshin anime and looking to pick up the manga story, the simplest answer on where to do so would be Chapter 151.
This includes if you watched the Samurai X OVAs as well, which cover Chapters 165 through 171 with the Samurai X Reflection OVA offering a sad, non-canon ending to Kenshin’s story. It also includes the highly abridged New Kyoto Arc OVA that just remake the titular Kyoto arc to be more like the manga.
The original Rurouni Kenshin anime weeble-wobbled back and forth between being a great adaptation and terrible one. It became particularly bad when it indulged in the old school shounen tradition of throwing in filler in order to not catch up to the manga as quickly. So it becomes an increasingly larger mess the longer you watch.
Now, the 2023 Rurouni Kenshin remake has had the great benefit of time. This means it follows the manga more diligently, though not without its own problems that often stem from being compared to the original anime.
If you watched the 2023 remake of Rurouni Kenshin and wish to continue the story in the manga, you can start at Chapter 58.
Is The Rurouni Kenshin Manga Over?
The original Rurouni Kenshin manga ended in 1999, but the Rurouni Kenshin – Hokkaido Arc, which launched in 2016, is a sequel series to it and is currently ongoing.
Will There Be A Rurouni Kenshin (2023) Season 2?
Following the end of the first season of the Rurouni Kenshin (2023) anime, it was announced that the series would continue with a second season titled, Rurouni Kenshin – Kyoto Disturbance. This signals that they will be adapting the Kyoto Arc of the manga. It has also been confirmed that it will air in October 2024 and will air for a continuous two cours.
The chapter where you can continue the Rurouni Kenshin manga following the reboot second season will be updated here following the final episode of season 2.
The Trust and Betrayal OVAs (and film 5) cover chapters 165 – 179, minus the framing story break of chapter 171.
