Despite what has been revealed about the author, Rurouni Kenshin was once a legendary series that held a fond place in a lot of people’s hearts. In this age of remaking replacing creative original thought, at least Rurouni Kenshin was a good candidate for it due to the occasional slap-dash nature of the original anime adaptation.

Where To Start The Rurouni Kenshin Manga After The Anime?
Original 1996 Rurouni Kenshin Anime
If you enjoyed the original 1996 Rurouni Kenshin anime and want to continue the story with the manga, you can start at:
- If you finished the original Rurouni Kenshin anime through Episode 62 – You can start the manga at Volume 18, Chapter 151.
- If you watch the Samurai X Trust and Betrayal OVAs – Those cover Chapter 165 through Chapter 179
- The New Kyoto Arc OVAs are a highly abridged remake of Chapter 62 through Chapter 147
Do note that if you watched the Reflections OVA, part of the Samurai X prequel OVA series that is actually a sequel to the anime, timeline-wise, that is anime-original as the Rurouni Kenshin story is still ongoing in the manga.
The original Rurouni Kenshin anime weeble-wobbled back and forth between being a great adaptation and terrible one. It became particularly bad when it indulged in the old school shounen tradition of throwing in filler in order to not catch up to the manga as quickly. So it becomes an increasingly larger mess the longer you watch.
If you are wondering why you jump into the manga after Episode 62 rather than Episode 94 where the anime ended, it is because after Episode 62, the anime mostly meanders through anime filler to where it ends. Episode 62 marks the real end of the original anime adapting manga story in any sort of diligence.
Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Remake
If you watched the 2023 remake of Rurouni Kenshin and wish to continue the story in the manga, you can start at:
- If you finished the Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Remake Season 1 – You can start at Volume 8, Chapter 58
- If you finished the Rurouni Kenshin 2023 Remake Season 2 – You can start at Volume 13, Chapter 106
The final episode of season two re-arranged 105 and 106 a bit, and as such, didn’t adapt Chapter 106 fully.
Is The Rurouni Kenshin Manga Over?
The original Rurouni Kenshin manga ended in 1999 with Volume 28, Chapter 259, but the Rurouni Kenshin – Hokkaido Arc, which launched in 2016, is a sequel series to it and is currently ongoing.
Will There Be A Rurouni Kenshin (2023) Season 3?
It has been officially announced that there will be a Rurouni Kenshin Remake Season 3. However, no further information as to when it will air has been released.
The Trust and Betrayal OVAs (and film 5) cover chapters 165 – 179, minus the framing story break of chapter 171.
