The Raven of the Inner Palace anime adapted things quite well, but you might see different names used depending on your translation. The kanji when translated into romaji is different from the Chinese reading that the anime subtitles use. That would be why the name they say in the anime sounds nothing like what you read in the subtitles.
Aside from that, the anime does a passable job adapting the light novel stories. It skips a lot of finer details to keep the stories more compact, but still keeps the core plot elements of them intact. As such, you don’t need to read the light novel from the beginning, though that would help get used to the new names if you are reading a translation that uses different ones.
