The original manga wasn’t perfect, but there was a great story unfolding in it that shouldn’t have been rolled in sugar as much as it was.

Where To Start The Princess Knight Manga After The Anime?
As is common with a number of anime adaptations of Osamu Tezuka’s work, the anime adaptation of Princess Knight doesn’t have all that much in common with the manga outside of the characters and the premise.
The Princess Knight manga is a linear story that explores a more dramatic ongoing, unfolding story. The anime, alongside being less dramatic and a bit more cute, tells episodic stories. The best you can hope for is overlapping plot elements and the appearance of various manga side characters.
While not so important to note given that the anime is not a diligent adaptation of it, the anime series is based off the 1962 remake of the Princess Knight manga rather than the original 1953 Princess Knight manga. (The 1962 manga is the only one you can find to read as well.)
Is The Princess Knight Manga Over?
The Princess Knight manga is complete. The original Princess Knight manga ending in 1956 with Volume 3, Chapter 16.
You can also read the sequel, The Twin Knights, which ended in 1958 with Volume 1, Chapter 16.
The Princess Knight manga was remade in 1962. This version of the manga, still called Princess Knight, ended in 1966 with Volume 5, Chapter 27. The story starts off true to the original manga, but does diverge and expand. Where exactly it does diverges, I can’t tell you since I can’t find the original 1953 version. Do note that The Twin Knights sequel can also be treated as a sequel to this manga as well even though it was made for the original manga series and written far earlier.
The manga was reborn once again in 2008. This time, a new artist and author gave their version of the story which ended in 2009 with Volume 4.
The manga was somehow further reborn again in 2015 when yet another new artist and author gave it a shot with RE:BORN The Masked Man and the Ribbon Knight. The manga ended in 2015 with Volume 3, Chapter 41.
Will There Be A Princess Knight Season 2?
While not a Season 2, it was announced that there would be an anime movie called The Ribbon Hero, airing in August 2026, that is based on the Princess Knight.
That said, the art style is very different and it’s not a far stretch to imagine it will not be a particularly diligent adaptation either.
