I was asking people for light novel recommendations with anime series that I could use for this very site, and I was surprised to be recommended NOT to read the Pet Girl of Sakura Hall light novel. This was a curious thing to hear for an anime series I really did enjoy. It is pretty rare to be told that the source material isn’t recommended.
Thankfully, this isn’t a Usagi Drop “don’t read it because the ending is kind of gross” sort of affair. The Pet Girl of Sakura Hall light novel is actually fine. It just doesn’t offer a particularly satisfying ending after what you are given in the anime.

Will There Be A Pet Girl of Sakura Hall Season 2?
As the Pet Girl of Sakura Hall anime ended in 2013, the light novel is long over, and the author has moved onto even bigger fame with Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, I’d say it is safe to say that The Pet Girl of Sakura Hall won’t ever be receiving a second season.
This is probably for the best given the weirdly violent reaction to the second half of the light novel by a surprisingly large chunk of fans.
