While I think it was interesting to see a rom-com anime be closer to modern relationships than the detached from reality shoujo sugar-coat you see a lot, Out Dating Story still sort of drifts away from reality as it moves into a lot of its more dramatic character plots.
Where to Start The Our Dating Story Light Novel After The Anime?
If you finished the Our Dating Story anime and want to continue the story with the light novels, you can start at Novel 4, Chapter 2.
The final episodes adapt Novel 4 Chapters 1 through 3, but only adapts the first chapter in full, the others are just partial adaptations.
What to Expect When Reading Our Dating Story?
The Our Dating Story adaptation was pretty good at first, but it increasingly went off the rails as it went on, and did so in a way that suggests they aren’t going to make another season. I strongly recommend reading the series from the beginning since the anime makes a lot of changes to the story later in the series.
An anime series adapting its way through three full novels does mean that a lot of little details were skipped, particularly with the side characters.
Is The Our Dating Story Light Novel Over?
The Our Dating Story light novel is still ongoing with Volume 7 released in September 2023.
Where to Start the Our Dating Story Manga After The Anime?
Our Dating Story also has a manga, but it is well behind the anime. It is around the events of Episode 10, at present with Chapter 22.
The manga started in 2022 and has had a solid two-volume per year release schedule, which means it may catch up to the anime as early as April 2024.
Will Our Dating Story Have a Season 2?
Unfortunately, there was no announcement of a second season of Our Dating Story. While it was relatively well-received, romance adaptations are always sales-boosters and are not usually full adaptations.
The anime ended in an open, but still pretty satisfying sort of spot. It left them open to do more, but a lack of announcement as well as the changes they made later in the story to make the anime feel more satisfying is not encouraging.
