I would have liked this series better if it had used the art style of the light novels, but instead all I could see was Sword Art Online fanfiction with diminishing animation quality.

The New Gate light novel is still ongoing. Since launching in 2013, it usually releases two novels per year.
Where To Start The New Gate Manga After The Anime?
If you finished The New Gate anime and want to continue the series with the manga, you can start at Chapter 58. Though I don’t recommend it. The anime shaves off a lot. This is definitely a series to read form the beginning.
The anime adapts adapts six chapters of seven total chapters in Volume 9.
Is The New Gate Manga Over?
The New Gate Manga is still ongoing. Since launching in 2015, it has slow release a bit, releasing one volume per year since 2022.
What to Expect From The New Gate Source Material Compared to The Anime?
Wedging in four light novels is never a good idea in an anime adaptation. It continues to not be a good idea with this series.
The New Gate anime shaves off a ton of world building and skips quite a few moments on top of that. It is highly recommended to read the light novels or the manga from the beginning.
Do be aware that The New Gate manga also cuts out a lot of details from the light novel too. However, it doesn’t skip quite as much as the anime does – which, I must stress further, is a lot. The anime cuts out a lot. If you want the most intact story, read the light novels from the beginning.
Will There Be A New Gate Season 2?
There has been no official announcement of a The New Gate Season 2 anime.
As they skipped so much, I do think this was probably more of a promotional project than an earnest anime adaptation. If it is popular/profitable enough, I’m sure they will make more, though.
