I was so delighted when I watched Nanana’s Buried Treasure. I’ve watch so much anime with the basic set up of “a dude lives with some form of supernatural girl,” and my Pavlovian response is to be ready to endure a harem, but treasure hunting with puzzles, wildly unique powers, and an intriguing, not-obvious murder mystery?
Truly, that was Nanana’s treasure, and it is as still-buried as the anime has become.

While Nanana’s Buried Treasure technically has three manga series, each and every one was a bit of a non-starter. Two series never made it past volume 2 before being canned, and the third – based on the character designs more inline with the anime adaptation – didn’t even live past the first volume.
Unfortunately, continuing this story in manga form is not an option.
What to Expect From The Nanana’s Buried Treasure Source Material Compared to The Anime?
You can kind of tell, as the anime goes on, that they are skipping a lot from the light novel source material. The anime presents things in an enjoyable way, but they are the kind of events that seem like they would be infinitely more detailed and better explained in the light novels – and they are.
The Nanana’s Buried Treasure anime adapts three full novels in 11 episodes, and it doesn’t do so great.
If you are in it for the romance or just want to see the solution to the mystery, you can technically continue on, but if you want the best version of the story to help you understand the details and world of the novel better, I really recommend reading this light novel from the beginning.
