Do note that the Konosuba movie is canon, and thus is required watching. It adapts the end of Novel 4 and all of Novel 5. The first episode of the third season also adapts what the movie left out of Novel 5.

True to the spirit of the series, the Konosuba anime adapts the Konosuba light novel like it was on drugs. Jokes aside, the anime skips all over the light novels in order to adapts the major events of this often overly plotless series. As such, it can make starting the light novel story after the anime a little more jarring of an experience.

However, as Konosuba is mostly jokes at first and the anime does loosely adapt the major plot points, you can still technically pick up the light novel and don’t need to read it from the beginning. However, you would have a smoother transition if you did as well as get a bit of new content in the moments they skipped.
