The 2021 movie, Knights of Sidonia: Love Woven in the Stars, is technically a sequel and adapts up to the end of the manga. However, it highly abridged the events and even changed several of them to be completely new for the movie. Enjoy the movie, but read the manga from the start point after Season 2.

The TV anime (not so much the movie) follows the manga story pretty well. Usually the complaint is over the Polygon Pictures art style in the anime, and not the actual treatment of the story. There is no reason to read the Knights of Sidonia manga from the beginning unless you want to.
