There are a lot of adventures in anime, but few actually feel like they are taking you on a journey that you have never been on before. Kino’s Journey does that, and does it in a way that you are genuinely excited and surprised by each new episode.

Where To Start The Kino’s Journey Light Novel After The Anime?
Picking up the Kino’s Journey light novels after the anime is complicated. Each light novel is made up of individual chapters, each chapter detailing a new location as Kino travels. Each episode of anime adapts one of those stories, but does not adapt them in order, often jumping around the novels.
Furthermore, the 2003 anime and the 2017 anime also have some overlap in the stories they adapt, but do not adapt the same stories either.
If you watched both the 2003 and 2017 anime, those series combined cover the entirety of the stories in Novel 1, except for the Land of Majority story that both anime series skipped.
After that, you will find that both anime series like to adapt maybe one or two stories from the other volumes. The 2003 anime sticks within the first 6 novels while the 2017 anime often adapts stories from much later novels since the 2017 reboot opted to adapt fan favorite stories.
Is The Kino’s Journey Light Novel Over?
The Kino’s Journey light novel is still ongoing. Since launching in 2000, it last released a novel in 2021.
While ongoing, the series has only released two novels since 2011, so it is slow going as well.
Where To Start The Kino’s Journey Manga After The Anime?
Kino’s Journey does have a manga – two manga series, in fact – but like the light novels, it is strongly recommended to just read both manga from the beginning.
Frustratingly, neither manga series adapts the novels in order or in full. Like the anime, both the manga by Iruka Shiomiya and the manga by the author Gou cherry-pick stories to adapt, occasionally skipping some novel chapters completely.
If you wish to read the Land of Majority chapter that both anime series skipped from the first light novel, it is Chapter 6 in the Iruka Shiomiya manga.
Why two manga series for Kino’s Journey? Well, as they both started in 2017 alongside the reboot, I think they did two manga series to adapt more stories, more quickly. The Iruka manga adapts stories from the first few novels like the 2003 anime while the Gou manga adapts stories from much later in the novels like the 2017 reboot.
This does mean that, while you are encouraged to go enjoy both manga series, you do want to read the Iruka manga series first and then read the Gou series. Of course, since this is a non-chronological journey, it ultimately doesn’t matter which order you read them in if you prefer the art of one series over the other.
Is The Kino’s Journey Manga Over?
Both manga series for Kino’s Journey are complete.
- The Iruka Shiomiya manga ended in 2020 with Volume 8, Chapter 53
- The Gou manga ended in 2019 with Volume 5, Chapter 22.
Will There Be A Kino’s Journey Season 2?
There is no shortage of Kino stories left to adapt, and the series has been enduringly popular for what a wonderful story it has been thus far. More Kino’s Journey anime is always in the cards since it went from 2003 to 2017 between releases.
That said, the fact that they ended the two manga series and did not capitalize on any hype the 2017 reboot may have generated does not bode well.
