However, it would be better phrased that the 36-episode Karakuri Circus anime is an abridged adaptation of the 425-chapter manga.

The anime, given its episode-to-chapter ratio, cut a lot of content, sometimes even skipping whole arcs. It skipped character introductions, combined fights, and even combined whole arc stories together just to adapt more manga in its short anime run.
