However, the anime leaves things frustratingly open. For closure, you’ll have to go to the light novel.

The Kakuriyo light novel is still ongoing. Since launching in 2015, it releases about one novel per year.
Where To Start The Kakuriyo Manga After The Anime?
The Kakuriyo manga is in a weird situation that I don’t fully understand.
It has a manga series, that is still behind the anime, that we will call the “Ioka Wako” manga after the artist that draws it. As of Chapter 44 (The final chapter of Volume 8, there 10 volumes total, but I can’t find the rest), it is at Episode 11 of the anime. The manga is still very much ongoing, releasing volume 10 in 2023.
However, 2023 also brought a reboot Kakuriyo manga by artist Toba Tsugaru. As it is very, very new, I can’t find it and don’t quite know how it differs from the other manga.

What to Expect From The Kakuriyo Source Material Compared to The Anime?
As the Kakuriyo anime was 26 episodes, adapting the contents of five light novels isn’t as ridiculous as it seems. However, like any anime that adapts a light novel, the Kaukriyo anime does leave out a few details and skip some smaller events. That said, there is nothing that merits reading the light novel from the beginning unless you want to.
Will There Be A Kakuriyo Season 2?
Surprising literally every fan, it was announced in 2024 that Kakuriyo would receive a Season 2, set to air in Fall 2025. This comes after the first season aired way back in 2018 and hope for another season seemed to have died in the quiet years following.
