Novel 9 is, however, a volume of short side stories. So technically the story continues in earnest with Novel 10.

The manga is adapting the story as the anime adapted it, which is out of order. So the manga doesn’t have a clean place that it ended in the light novel since the events of the manga story do skip light novel volumes.
What to Expect From The Inukami Source Material Compared to The Anime?
What you need to know about Inukami, the light novel, when compared to the anime is that a good chunk of the story is just short stories using the characters. The anime took a lot of these short stories and the more sizable events like Dai Yoko or Sekidosai and stitched them together in a more naturally flowing plot.
As such, the anime rearranges a lot of the content in the eight light novels that it adapted, skipping some of the shorter stories that they couldn’t really weave in.
You don’t necessarily need to read the Inukami light novels from the beginning, but there is a decent chunk of story that was skipped that would make it worth while.
Will There Be A Inukami Season 2?
As the Inukami anime aired in 2006 and the light novels ended in 2008, the time of this series is long done. There is virtually no chance of an Inukami Season 2 anime.
