In a very Evangelion way, His and Her Circumstances falls apart in the final episodes. This time, not from depression, but a mix of dwindling budget and the manga author raising holy hell against the direction Anno was taking the series. It was supposed to be a fun, if drama-laced rom-com, not the darker meditation on inner turmoil that was starting to permeate the relationship.

What to Expect From The His and Her Circumstances Manga?
The anime direction may have gotten creative pushback from the author, but it was actually telling the same story. It just adopted a more menacing sort of tone to Arima’s jealousy and inner turmoil. The anime itself did drift off into side character stories by the end, but that’s just how this series goes, or rather, how a lot of old shoujo romances are. They pad things with side character stories to stretch a 10 volume main character romance into 20 volumes.
