Also known by its official Chinese name, Tian Guan Cifu, Heaven Official’s Blessing offers everything a BL fan could want in a story from a country that tries its hardest to stomp out anything BL related.

Heaven Official’s Blessing offers a story that starts off fun enough, but provides a slippery slope of spiraling despair that you just can’t step off because you have become so invested in the characters due to not just their relationships, but their resilience.

Where To Start The Heaven Official’s Blessing Novel After The Anime?

If you finished both seasons of the Heaven Official’s Blessing anime/donghua, picking up the novel depends on which version you are reading.

There is the original web novel, which is made up of 5 Novels, in which you would start at Chapter 58 / the beginning of Novel 2: The God-Pleasing Crown Prince. This is generally where to start when reading fan translations.

Then there is the official English translated version by Seven Seas, which splits the Chinese web novel into 8 Novels due to length. In this version, you would start at Chapter 25, which is about three-forths through Novel 2 of the Seven Seas official translation.

Is The Heaven Official’s Blessing Novel Over?

Both the original Chinese web novel and the Seven Seas official translation of Heaven Official’s Blessing are complete. The series ended in 2022.

Where To Start The Heaven Official’s Blessing Manhua After The Anime?

Heaven Official’s Blessing also has a manhua. However, Season 2 surpassed it. The latest chapter I could find is Chapter 101 which was just after Lang Qianqiu “dealt with” Qi Rong in his lair, which is near the end of Season 2, Episode 9.

The Heaven Official’s Blessing is still ongoing. Since launching in 2019, it usually releases two chapters a month.

What to Expect From The Heaven Official’s Blessing Source Material Compared to The Anime?

While the Heaven Official’s Blessing anime does leave some details from the novels out, it still does a good job of adapting the core story of them.

The manhua, however, does capture the increasingly tragic atmosphere of the series a lot better in its visuals. The manhua also assumes that you have prior knowledge of the novels, which for fans coming from the anime, won’t be a problem.

The large caveat to keep in mind is that, due to Chinese censorship laws regarding homosexuality, the Heaven Official’s Blessing anime is decently censored. This means in the uncensored versions of the novels offered by fan translators and the Seven Seas official translation, you get more of the steamy action, like sex scenes and kissing, that the anime fades to black for or omits altogether.

If you are in it for the boy’s love, it is highly recommended to read the novels from the beginning. Both the manhua and anime, as more visual products, are censored due to Chinese government restrictions.

Will There Be A Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 3?

There has been no official announcement of a Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 3 anime.

Unlike Japanese anime, whose patterns for renewal I am generally familiar with and are often predictable, I cannot even begin to speculate when Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 3 will be announced or released.

The first season came out in 2020, and Season 2 came out in 2023. As this series has a large and dedicated fanbase, a third season seems very likely, and I hope you don’t have to wait three more years for it.
