Where To Start The Guin Saga Light Novel After The Anime?

If you finished the Guin Saga anime and wish to continue the story in the light novel, you can start at Novel 17.

Though, it would be far better for your story experience to read from the beginning. Because, obviously, adapting 16 novels in 24 episodes is silliness.

Is The Guin Saga Light Novel Over?

The Guin Saga light novel is still ongoing. Since launching in 1979, it has released at least one novel most years, the most recent (as of this entry being posted) being Novel 150 in 2025. It also has 26 side story novels not counted among the main series.

The original author, Kaoru Kurimoto, died in 2013, and Yu Godai has taken over writing since Novel 130.

An interesting bit of history, Kaoru Kurimoto started Guin Saga as a story that she never intended to end. So when she had cancer in 2013, she continued with no ending in mind, dying three days after she was too tired to continue writing. Godai continues that, so if you like complete stories, this is perhaps not the one for you.

Where To Start The Guin Saga Manga After The Anime?

While Guin Saga has a manga, it barely adapts a fraction of the novels and comes nowhere close to surpassing what the anime speedily covered.

It adapts the first three novels, but starts skipping things as it goes on and has manga-original scenes.

The Seven Magi manga adapts the side story novel of the same name, which is the first of twenty-six side story novels that are not counted in the numbered mainline entries.

Is The Guin Saga Manga Over?

The Guin Saga manga is complete. It ended in 2010 with Volume 6, Chapter 6.

Each volume is just one long chapter.

The Guin Saga: The Seven Magi side story is also complete. It ended in 2002 with Volume 3, Chapter 25.

What to Expect From The Guin Saga Source Material Compared to The Anime?

The Guin Saga anime is basically just a summary of plots for the first 16 books. It condenses pretty much everything, and you miss a whole lot. Probably the most problematic omission is a lot of the internal monologue, which would better explain why characters take certain actions and act the way the do.

Furthermore, the anime also re-arranges the events of the novels it is adapting, though some novels do focus on certain other character stories more than the main characters, so that’s not such a huge deal. They are basically interweaving events from separate books to create a timeline.

Theoretically, you can continue on with the story after the anime, but if you are going to commit to Guin Saga, you should really commit whole-heartedly.

Will There Be A Guin Saga Season 2?

As the Guin Saga anime aired in 2009, there probably won’t be a Guin Saga Season 2, but if we all live long enough, there may be a reboot someday. Perhaps even a third author.
