While Date a Live has a lot of fun spin-off manga, don’t be fooled, the series proper doesn’t have a manga adaptation. It got canceled in the first volume. It also tried again later with the Tohka Dead End manga attempting to adapt the first arc, but that was also cancelled after four volumes.

What to Expect From The Date a Live Source Material Compared to The Anime?

The Date A Live anime is not quite consistent with its quality as an adaptation. The first season adapted at a fast pace and skips a lot, Season 2 slowed it down and was better, Season 3 spend it up again, Season 4 and 5 slowed it back down a bit. Season 1 and Season 3 are poor quality adaptations as they skip and condense so much present in those novels.

If you have kept up with the anime and watched it to Season 5 already, reading the last three novels will prove no problem for you. Do you love Date a Live? You definitely want to go read those novels from the beginning. There is a lot more the anime skipped. So you don’t need to read the series from the beginning, but may want to.
