Where To Start The Cutie Honey Manga After The Anime?
TL;DR – None of all the many Cutie Honey anime series are adapting any of all the many Cutie Honey manga series. Mostly, the anime just works with characters and vibes.
There are a lot of various anime series under the umbrella that is Cutie Honey, so let’s go through them series-by-series.
Cutie Honey (1973)
While the 1973 Honey Cutie anime is adapting the same rough story as the 1973 manga, the manga version is a more concise story. The Cutie Honey manga still has sort of a monster of the week formula and is still ecchi and outrageous, but the manga’s story is more streamlined than the anime, which pads in a decent amount of filler to this two-volume manga series.
Essentially, the manga is much more focused on Honey’s fight with Panther Claw than anything else, and it moves that plot along at a very fast pace.
Shin Honey Cutie
Technically, these OVAs released in 1994 were a sequel to the original manga, but it was darker in tone, and not related to the manga story at all.
Cutie Honey Flash
Cutie Honey Flash and its corresponding manga, Cutie Honey F, are reboots of the original story, and both are made to be a bit tamer as a way to snatch up some of that sweet, sweet Sailor Moon fandom run-off in the 90’s.
Keeping tradition with the original series, the anime and manga stories sometimes overlap, but are mostly unrelated. The manga tells a more concise story while the anime really fluffs it out with filler.
Re: Cutie Honey
This version of Cutie Honey was modeled more after the 2004 live action movie version directed by Hideaki Anno. Not to be confused by the two different Tokusatsu live actions series and the latest live action movie, Cutie Honey Beloved Enemy movie released in 2025.
Re: Cutie Honey, the 2004 live action movie, and the Cutie Honey a Go Go manga all adapt the same complete story, but with a number of small differences between each of them.
Cutie Honey Universe
Of all the anime, Honey Cutie Universe, made to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the series, comes the closest to adapting the manga’s more concise story.
That said, it is still quite different from the manga and not really adapting it very faithfully.
Is The Cutie Honey Manga Over?
Honey Cutie amassed a tidy amount of various manga series too, so let’s go through them.
- Honey Cutie – 1973, 2 Volumes, 24 Chapters – The original manga drawn and written by Go Nagai
- Honey Cutie: The Another – 1973, 1 Volume, 19 Chapters – Various Honey Cutie adventures written by Go Nagai, but drawn by two different artists.
- Cutie Honey a Go Go – 2003, 1 Volume, 10 Chapters – Adaptation of the 2004 live action movie’s story.
- Cutie Honey Flash – 1996, 4 Volumes, 12 Chapters – A tamer reboot of Cutie Honey
- Cutie Honey Seed – 2004, 4 Volumes, 39 Chapters – Alternate universe set series where Honey is a shape-shifting alien and the Cutie Honey story is an anime airing in-universe, lol.
- Cutie Honey 2023 – 2023, 1 Volume, 16 Chapters – A compilation of original Cutie Honey chapters combined with bits of Gekiman! Cutie Honey Arc (which is a short autobiographical manga about the creation of Cutie Honey)
- Honey Cutie Nova – 2025, Ongoing – A new Honey Cutie series for its 50th anniversary, giving everyone a big glow up.
