It isn’t often you see anime try to make a world that feels wholly original and wildly unfamiliar from our own anymore. Children of the Whales really goes above and beyond with it, creating a world with unique aspects that really invites you to want to learn more about it. However, what you get in the anime really is just a small fraction.

Where To Start The Children of the Whales Manga After The Anime?
If you wish to continue the Children of the Whales story after the anime with the manga, you can start at Chapter 24.
The anime adapts all of Volume 6.
What to Expect From The Children of the Whales Manga?
The Children of the Whales anime has an anime-original ending. For about three-fourths of the series, it actually adapts the source material quite diligently, but progressively speeds up closer to the end.
You will see bits from the anime in later chapters of the manga – up to Chapter 33 – but that Chapter 24 is where coverage of the manga story in the anime becomes spotty, so it is really for the best to start there.
You can read from the beginning if you want, but the anime was actually really diligent up until that point when it needed to start setting up for the original anime-only ending.
Is The Children of the Whales Manga Over?
The Children of the Whales manga is complete. It ended in 2023 with Chapter 99.
Will There Be A Children of the Whales Season 2?
I wish. However, at this point, another season of Children of the Whales seems unlikely. A lot of time has passed, and the anime went through the trouble to set up a more conclusive anime ending, meaning they weren’t hopeful at the time either.
This is a little unclear to me. Judging from the mangaupdates entry that says it “Ends at Vol 8, Chap 33 Abridged” I’m pretty sure I understand that the above means from vol 6 ch24, the story starts diverging. Perhaps make that a bit clearer?
Sure, I added in some (hopefully) better wording for clarity. The anime starts to skip on on some details starting at Chapter 24, even though it does still adapt some manga story events up to Chapter 33. However, those canon events are diluted by them setting up the anime-only ending instead of setting up where the story is going next.
