Judging it by its premise alone, everyone thought Butareba was going to be the peak of stupid isekai. However, if I learned anything from Reborn as a Vending Machine, the more stupid the premise, the more effort the author puts into making it actually good.
Lo and behold, Butareba was actually… Really quite good, and unexpectedly heart-breaking.

What to Expect From The Butareba Source Material Compared to The Anime?
Butareba, as it only adapts the first novel, skips very little and is a pretty diligent adaptation. It does re-order some events, but there is nothing that merits reading the series from the beginning unless you want to.
That said, the source material does have a bit more ecchi.
Will There Be A Butareba Season 2?
There has been no official announcement of a Butareba Season 2 anime.
As the anime coincided with the end of the light novel, that means this anime was a purely promotional project. If it does turn out to be a profitable series, a season 2 will come. However, given the sizable production delays, that definitely hurt its potential for profit.
