Where to start the Black Butler manga depends of how much of the Black Butler anime you have watched.
- If you watched Black Butler Season 1 and Season 2 – Read the Manga at Chapter 21
- If you watched Book of Circus – Read the manga at Chapter 36
- If you watched the Book of Murder OVAs – Read the manga at Chapter 50
- If you watch the Book of the Atlantic movie – Read the manga at Chapter 65
You should just start at Chapter 21 where the story diverges in season one. You can dive in at Chapter 65 after the Book of the Atlantic movie, but you will have missed stuff if you didn’t watch Book of Circus or Book of Murder. Any OVAs outside the Book of Murder OVAs are not canon, thus you don’t need to watch them.
What to Expect From The Black Butler Manga?
Due to its addition of anime-original content in Season 1 and all of Season 2 being anime-original, it makes the continuity of Black Butler hard to grasp in the anime.
It would honestly be easier to read the manga from the beginning rather than trying to jump into the manga after the anime.
