I’m glad I learned mahjong to play Yakuza mini-games. It makes me feel like I’m in a secret club when I watch mahjong anime.

Where To Start The Akagi Manga After The Anime?
If you finished the Akagi anime and wish to continue the story in the manga, you can start Volume 13, Chapter 110.
What to Expect From The Akagi Manga?
The Akagi anime is a quite good adaptation of the manga. While it does cut out some smaller moments, it’s only real flaw is that it skips a small arc by not adapting Chapter 51 through 56. However, it is not necessary to go back and read it unless you are just curious.
You don’t need to read the Akagi manga from the beginning after the anime unless you just want to.
Is The Akagi Manga Over?
The Akagi manga is complete. It ended in 2018 with Volume 36, Chapter 306.
Akagi Spin-Offs
- Ten – The Blessed Way of the Nice Guy (Ten – Tenhou-doori no Kaidanji) – Complete, 18 Volumes, 164 Chapters – Sequel to Akagi set 20 years after the main series with a new character.
- Yami-Mahjong Fighter Mamiya (Yami-ma no Mamiya) – Ongoing – A sequel to Ten, following yet another new character gambling on mahjong in the Reiwa era.
- Hero: A Man Who Succeeds Dying Wishes of Akagi (Hero: Gyakkyou no Touhai) – Complete, 18 Volumes, 142 Chapters – A sequel to Ten, but following the “other” main character from Ten, Hiroyuki.
- Washizu – Lord of Mahjong Hell (Washizu – Enma no Touhai) – Complete, 8 Volumes, 53 Chapters – A spin-off of Akagi about Washizu Iwao in his younger days.
- Washizu: The Mahjong that Ruled a Nation (Washizu – Tenka Sousei Touhairoku) – Complete, 4 Volumes, 24 Chapters – Sequel to Washizu.
Will There Be An Akagi Season 2?
As the anime aired in 2006, I think we all must be honest with ourselves and admit there will be no more Akagi anime because mahjong, despite its Asian popularity, is still a rather niche interest to indulge in anime form.
