If I could just dome myself and pretend this series was about a young yakuza and the boss’ granddaughter falling in love, I would be all about this series. Unfortunately, it brings up the fact that he raised her specifically from a young child early and often enough to sort of murder my interest. However, there is an anime fan for every series, and this one is well-loved in Japan.

Technically, the anime ends with Chapter 26, but it cuts off the last few pages of extra sauciness from the chapter.
As this is a rather linear shoujo romance, the anime followed the manga fairly diligently. However, it did add in more “younger years” flashbacks into the episodes for context.

The A Girl and Her Guard Dog manga is still ongoing. Since it launched in 2019, the manga has had a bit of an unreliable release schedule. Some years it releases as much as three volumes per year while there have also been years where only one volume was released.
That said, it was announced at the end of 2023 that the manga was going on hiatus to prepare for the next arc of the manga.
