When you start a story, and find yourself enjoying it, you want to finish it.
For some, they don’t want to wait for the creator release more of it. When they get into stories, they want to consume them all at once from beginning all the way to the end.
That desire is usually hard to fulfill in anime by its very nature, but for those who don’t mind heading into the light novel after the anime, it does give them a real chance to consume the whole story if the light novel actually finished already.
If you only really like to get into an anime series if you know that you can—even if you have to go to the light novel—get a complete story, then this big list of unfinished anime series based on complete light novel series is for you.
–
This list is for fully concluded light novels only.
Not included on this list are:
- Series with complete web novels
- Series with ongoing sequel light novel
- Series with canceled/indefinite hiatus light novel
I consider all of the above “not complete” light novel stories. So you can go into this list with full faith that you will get a story with an ending that the author created.
On the topic of series with complete web novels. I really don’t like working with web novels as they are “the rough drafts” of light novels. I like working with finished, polished—and in this case, complete—products.
This list is updated as I add more series to this site. If you know a series that fits, but does not have an entry on this site, do leave a comment and I’ll get an entry going.
Unfinished Anime With Complete Light Novels
Did I miss one? See a mistake? Leave a comment! I did my best, but these lists will never be perfect.

This is a super helpful list, but one thing that I also thing could be useful (and probably wouldn’t be too much work) is if you could clarify whether the manga is axed or still ongoing if it says “No” in that column.
I could add that in, sure. Though it might take some time for me to get to it.
Just wanted to say thank you very much for this very helpful list!
You’re welcome. Many people asked for it.
so clarify this for me you added bookworm when Hannelore 5th year exists;
yet left out spice and wolf due to wolf and parchment…?
same for MT
The difference is… I didn’t know sequels for Ascendance or Jobless Reincarnation started, lol.
I’ll make all the appropriate updates now.
Edit: I’mma leave Jobless Reincarnation since Redundant Reincarnation is only billed for four novels (the web novel was brief and also complete), and it’s released three already. There’s a decent chance I’d forget to put it back since I don’t keep current with MT.
Fair enough.
imo and you’re free to ignore this btw but you could’ve just added the ones with the sequels and added a asterisk or something to denote it; the same with hiatuses, as people can use it to not fall into that pitfall.
That’s fair, and a pretty good idea!
