I am old enough to still remember Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei anime mania when its and its many seasons took the anime world by storm despite being an incredibly niche story filled with lovely dark comedy and distinctly Japanese jokes.
While that has long faded and now it is hard to even find the anime to watch it, there is still the ending to this series that is left for many anime-only fans to discover.

Where To Start The Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Manga After The Anime?
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a widely episodic comedy series and doesn’t actually have much of a plot – right up until the last 10 chapters where it develops intense plot.
However, while Studio Shaft makes good anime, they are actually quite notorious for adapting these sort of episodic series, and when they do, of course they skip and re-order a lot of chapters, because there no plot and they need to make a cohesive anime experience. Unfortunately, in doing so, this also means they often never adapt the ending either.
So if you want to read the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei manga in a way that skips as little as possible, you would start around Chapter 10.
If you just want to read the infamous actual ending of the series that the anime did not animate, then you would start at Chapter 290.
Do note that, throughout the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series – even in the anime – there is foreshadowing to this ending. So you may even want to read the ending, then read the manga from the beginning to see some pretty masterful foreshadowing of it.
Is The Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei Manga Over?
The Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei manga is complete. It ended in 2012 with Chapter 302.
