What to Expect From The Banished From the Hero’s Party Source Material Compared to The Anime?
Whether you enjoy the light novel or (in the future hopefully) the manga, it is important to keep in mind that the source material is more action-oriented than the anime. They actually leave out and edit down a lot of action scenes that makes the anime seem more slice of life/romance. You still get slice of life and romance, but you have to wait for a lot of action to transpire in-between.
That said, both the first season and the second season are a bit messy as adaptations. The first season slices out the action that allowed them to adapt four light novels of story. The second season skipped two novels. If you do truly love the story, reading from the beginning isn’t a bad idea. However, at least read the novels that were skipped.

Will it go all the way to be a full adaptation? We shall see.
The second season didn’t lean into harem territory at all. Not sure if you didn’t watch the show and are going off of some stupid MAL reviewer that got mad when Ruti says she wants to be Red’s lover and dropped the show. I would be surprised if it gets a season 3 but the popularity level doesn’t have to do with harem elements showing up.
