Cyberpunk Edgerunners was the anime that kind of came out of nowhere, collectively swept up a ton of praise, accolades, and attention before slipping back away into the shadows.

However, Cyberpunk Edgerunners did remind us that Cyberpunk 2077 was a game that existed. One that really wasn’t ready to be released, was way overhyped by the developer who over-promised when it did come out, and caught a bunch of shit for it. However, it has been patched into a pretty decent game now.
If you enjoyed Cyberpunk Edgerunners, it probably got you a little curious for the game. However, you may wonder if you will be following David’s story in game form if you play Cyberpunk 2077.
The story in Cyberpunk Edgerunners is not the story of Cyberpunk 2077.
Cyberpunk Edgerunners is wholly unrelated to the main story of Cyberpunk 2077, takes place before the events of the game, and only a few characters – none of them part of the main cast – are really seen in the game.
This means that you can enjoy either the game or the anime all on its own without knowledge of the other. Cyberpunk Edgerunners was actually planned when the game launched as a sort of way to revive interest in the game at a later point. So when Cyberpunk Edgerunners was released, Cyberpunk 2077 was also patched to include some references to things seen in the anime.
So now you can indeed go play Cyberpunk 2077 and see a few more easter eggs that nod to the events of Cyberpunk Edgerunners.
