You don’t often find series like this where they are working creativity pretty hard to make a complex concept viable.
It’s something special.

If you finished the Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere anime and want to continue the story in the light novels, you can start at:
- If you finished the Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere Season 1 anime – You can start the light novel at Novel 2A

The Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere light novel is complete. It ended in 2018 with Novel 29. There are also three spin-off novels.
The Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon – Kimitoasamade (AKA Next Box) side story novel is possibly still ongoing, most recently releasing Novel 12 in 2024. (I can’t find confirmation if it ended)
Do note that most Minoru Kawakami novels share chronology and a world, but I’ve only covered his content of the Genesis series that pertains to this story.

Is The Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere Manga Over?
The Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere manga is complete. It ended in 2015 with Volume 6, Chapter 42.
What to Expect From The Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere Source Material Compared to The Anime?
The average light novel in any other series is usually under 300 pages, the average single light novel for Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere is over 500 pages (thus why each book is split), just to give you an idea of exactly how much content two seasons of anime covered.
This is a detail-dense, complex series, and the anime, while adapting it pretty well, does condense a lot as well as doesn’t really explain some concepts as clearly as it should.
Because it doesn’t explain the details and especially since it skips over a lot of terminology, you really might want to consider reading these light novels from the beginning. It’s a complex series and the novels do a much better job of presenting and explaining it.
Will There Be A Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere Season 3?
As the Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere anime aired in 2012, there is probably no hope for a Season 3.
