Where To Start The Genshiken Manga After The Anime?
If you finished the Genshiken anime and want to continue the story in the manga, you can start at:
- If you finished the Genshiken Season 1 anime – You can start the manga at Volume 4, Chapter 22.
- If you finished the Genshiken OVAs – These covers Chapters 24, 26, and 31
- If you finished the Genshiken Season 2 anime – You can start the manga at Volume 7, Chapter 42
- If you finished the Genshiken Nidaime OVA – It covers Chapters 50 and 51.
- If you finished the Genshiken Nidaime anime – You can start the manga at Volume 14, Chapter 80.
Genshiken Nidaime has an anime-original final episode.
A special note for anyone who doesn’t already know:
The Genshiken Nidaime anime, while made six years after Genshiken Season 2 and has a name that makes it confusing, is a continuation of the original story. The manga is split into Genshiken and Genshiken Nidamie (AKA Genshiken: Second Generation) which is set after some of the older senpais from the original cast graduate, thus feature a shift in character focus.
You might see the Genshiken manga split into two series—Genshiken (9 volumes) and Genshiken Nidaime (12 volumes)—or you might see the manga just kept as one single series with 21 total volumes. This is because the manga originally ended after the first nine volumes, then started up again several years later.
The Nidaime manga start point, if the manga series are separated, would be Volume 5 instead of Volume 14, but the actually chapter numbering did not reset.
What to Expect From The Genshiken Manga?
The Genshiken manga actually does have a bit of a timeline to it, which keeps the anime on track a bit, but the Genshiken anime does jump around what chapters it adapts in that timeline a little bit. Furthermore, the longer the anime goes on, the more it skips. Nidaime in particular skips quite a bit of the manga while the earlier anime actually skips very little.
While you don’t necessarily need to read the manga from the beginning as some episodes are almost shot for shot from the manga, you may actually want to consider starting from where Genshiken Season 2 ended rather than where Nidaime ended because of how much Nidaime skips.
Is The Genshiken Manga Over?
The Genshiken manga is complete. It ended in 2016 with Volume 21, Chapter 127.
As I mentioned in the above special note, the original Gneshiken manga ended in 2006, then was resumed in 2009 as Genshiken Nidaime.
Will There Be A Genshiken Nidaime Season 2?
The Genshiken Nidaime anime aired in 2013, so at this point, I think hope for a second season is dead.
