Yuruyuri dared to do the obvious next step for parody in the Cute Girls Doing Cute Things genre – turn that unspoken subtext into a full-on joke. The girl’s love elements are always there in CGDCT genre, it is part of the appeal for some, but Yuruyuri turns it into delightful chaos.

Where To Start The Yuruyuri Manga After The Anime?
If you finished all three seasons of Yuruyuri and want to continue the chaos in the manga, you can start at Chapter 99.
Do note that the OVAs also adapt canon content as well.
The Oomuroke spin-off series, following the Sakurako sisters, also has two movies that are adapting the corresponding spin-off manga. Both movies adapt chapters from the spin-off manga, but they do jump around the series rather than adapt it linearly, skipping many chapters. The movies are more fan service (as in, bringing moments to life in anime for the fans) than it is an adaptation. The movies also tone down a bit of the innate silliness of the manga, so it would be best to read the spin-off from the beginning.
This is based off the Dear Sisters movie, the first movie, since the Dear Friends sequel movie is still new and difficult to find. So there may be a more concrete place to pick up the Oomuroke manga after the movies, but I don’t yet know it.
What to Expect From The Yuruyuri Manga?
As Yuruyuri is a slice of life comedy overflowing with girl’s love, the anime can jump around a bit, and it does skip a sizable chunk of chapters while doing so.
As the manga is arguably as cute as the anime, if not more so, it may be worthwhile reading the series from the beginning for those skipped chapters. However, it is definitely not necessary since the plot is often random jokes.
Is The Yuruyuri Manga Over?
The Yuruyuri manga is still ongoing. While it started in 2009, it hasn’t released a new volumes since 2022.
Yuruyuri does also have a few spin-off manga series, none of them especially long, though. These include:
- That Time Only Akari Got Reincarnated as a Slime (Manga, Ongoing) – They got isekai’d, ya’ll.
- Oomuroke (Manga, Ongoing) – Spin-off about Sakurako and her sisters. Has two movies
- Touzainanboku (Manga, Ongoing) – Spin-off following the teachers when they were in high school.
- Reset (Manga, Ongoing?) – Set in the same school, follows different girls, though it has been on hiatus almost since it was started.
