Where Does The Durarara Anime End In The Light Novel?

Back in the day, Durarara was a bit of a phenomenon – that fell off a bit after the first season. However, like any Narita story, Durarara offers ten tons of characters whose individual story threads all start weaving together into an interesting, interconnected tapestry by the end in a masterful bit of storytelling.

  • If you finished DurararaX2 Shou (Season 2) – Start at Novel 7
  • If you finished DurararaX2 Ten (Season 3) – Start at Novel 10
  • If you finished DurararaX2 Ketsu (Season 4) – The anime adapted the base Durarara novels fully through Novel 13, the final novel. Start the Durarara SH sequel novel series.

Do note that the Durarara SH novel series is a sequel series set one year after the events of the final base novel/Ketsu anime. However, it mostly follows new characters with some of the older ones making appearances.

The original Durarara light novel is complete. It ended in 2014 with Novel 13.

The Durarara SH sequel light novel is on hiatus. It has been on hiatus since 2016 after releasing Novel 4. The author is allegedly having health issues that prevent progress.

Where To Start The Durarara Manga After The Anime?

The Durarara anime and light novel also have a manga series. However, this is one of those series where each arc is a separate manga series, so you will have to hunt down the titles and be sure to read them in order.

The Durarara manga read order is:

  • Durarara (Complete, 4 Volumes) – Adapts through Episode 12 of Durarara Season 1 anime.
  • Durarara Saika Arc (Complete, 3 Volumes) – Adapts through Episode 17 of Durarara Season 1 anime
  • Durarara Yellow Scarves Arc (Complete, 3 Volumes) – Adapts through Episode 24 of Durarara Season 1 anime
  • Durarara Re;Dollars Arc (Ongoing, 8 Volumes (as of September 2024)) – Adapts through Shou and Ten anime (Season 2 and Season 3) and is presently in the first episodes of the DurararaX2 Ketsu Season 4 anime.

Is The Durarara Manga Over?

The Durarara manga is still ongoing. They used to release about a volume per year, but haven’t released a new volume for the Re:Dollars arc series since 2022.

What to Expect From The Durarara Source Material Compared to The Anime?

As Durarara is such a long-running anime, it does suffer a big of a roller coaster in terms of its quality as an adaptation. The first season of anime is pretty great, the second season – less so. Season 3 and Season 4 are a bit better, but still suffer from the fast pace and cutting of details in Season 2.

While many details where cut out of the Durarara anime, probably the biggest mismanagement is the cut details from Izaya’s character story. The anime makes him more of a base villain whereas the light novels and manga make him a more complex character.

You may also want to note that the anime changes some details from the light novel and the manga changes some details from the light novel as well. So neither the anime or manga are a completely faithful adaptation of the light novel story, but the manga is still an excellent read with a few more light novel details that the anime left out.

Durarara Spin-Offs
