What to Expect From The Holmes of Kyoto Source Material Compared to The Anime?
Each chapter of the Holmes of Kyoto light novel is a new case. The anime only skipped 3 cases/events.
The anime skipped:
- Las Meninas case in Novel 2 (Manga chapters 13 & 14)
- The Creeping Feelings prologue in Novel 3 (Manga Chapter 20)
- The Kabuki Star’s Love case in Novel 3 (Manga Chapter 21 – 23)
Outside of that, the anime was actually a pretty great adaptation of the source material. You should read the Las Meninas at least since it introduces a character that may turn up later. However, you aren’t missing anything else important (other than a bit of the building romance in Creeping Feelings) that you need to worry about.
As such, you don’t need to worry about reading the series from the beginning unless you want to.
